My New Song

The White Whale
Relax, I’m not
in it for the kill
I don’t do it for the hunt
but for the thrill
If I could catch just one glimpse
I would die happy
Just to know
that it truly exists
You don’t need to understand
why l live this way
I could spend my whole life
searching for that whale
Just to see it emerge
from the cold black waves
To not even try would be
the same as to fail

The tune I wrote makes me think about wanting to see a whale.. and the sort of feeling I get when I see up close, or get to touch an animal; like we could be pals. I’ve never seen a whale before, and I reckon if I met one we could be good mates. The lyrics are a bit of an homage to Moby Dick, but if I was Cpt. Ahab I wouldn’t want revenge on the whale, I’d want to be his friend.

…And that’s how I write songs. :) It’s also a pretty succinct example of why I’ll never make it big as a song writer, but I don’t care. My songs make me happy, and sometimes other people like them too, which is cool.
